Murray Bloom (5/30/1937 - 5/27/2020) was born in New York City and educated at New York and Columbia Universities from which he received three degrees in Fine Arts and Industrial Arts. He studied painting and Illustration at The Art Students League.

In 1972 the artist and his family moved to Israel where he became staff artist and photographer for the Jerusalem Post, book designer for Keter Publishing House, where among other books he designed and art-directed the SIX volume Junior Encyclopedia Judaica, and senior technical illustrator for Israel Aircraft Industries where he helped to illustrate the maintenance manual for Israel’s Kfir C.2 fighter. He also taught at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, The Avni Art Institute, Hadassah Community College and state art teachers training college.

Back in the United States, faculty appointments included: Millersville State University, PA•UCLA Extension Division, CA•Otis/Parsons School of Design, CA

Murray retired from teaching Special Education in the New York City Public School System.

While primarily a painter, his background led him into wood sculpture, mosaics, calligraphy, cartooning, graphic design as well as a return to a lifelong interest in photography. His work reflects messages he has to convey, whether the vehicle be through humor or a more highly sophisticated symbolist imagery. He transmitted these messages with wisdom, skill and an obvious love for his art.
